Instant Pot Applesauce

I Love This Applesauceapple and cracker

As someone who takes care of my family, I always try to cook at home as much as possible. This particular recipe is great for families with small and big kids. It is easy to digest for little ones, contains a good source of fiber and vitamin C, and can be used as a topping for yogurt or ice cream. Another wonderful characteristic is its natural sweetness, so there’s no need to add sugar.

When I was a chef at a daycare, I served this recipe with graham crackers. The kids loved it because they could eat it by themselves using only their little hands. The teachers were also thankful because they didn’t have to help the kids. This treat is something that the whole family can enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Instant Pot Applesauce Recipe

Can I use any type of apples for this recipe?

Absolutely! You can use a variety of apples, such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or a mix for a unique flavor. Sweeter apples yield a sweeter sauce, while tart ones add a nice balance.

Do I need to peel the apples?

It’s recommended to peel the apples for a smoother texture. However, if you prefer chunkier applesauce or want to save time, leaving the peels on is an option.

Can I adjust the sweetness level?

Yes, you have full control over the sweetness. Feel free to add more or less sugar depending on your taste preferences. You can also substitute sugar with honey or maple syrup for natural sweetness.

Can I freeze the applesauce?

Absolutely! Allow the applesauce to cool completely before transferring it to airtight containers or freezer bags. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Is it necessary to add lemon juice?

Lemon juice not only enhances the flavor but also helps prevent browning. If you’re not a fan of the lemon flavor, a small amount is sufficient to do the trick without overpowering the taste.

What’s the difference between natural release and quick release?

Natural release allows the pressure to decrease gradually on its own, while quick release involves manually venting the steam. For this recipe, a natural release for about 5 minutes is recommended to avoid splattering.

Can I use this applesauce in baking?

Absolutely! This applesauce is versatile and can be used as a substitute for oil or butter in many baking recipes, adding moisture and natural sweetness.

How long can the applesauce be stored in the refrigerator?

When stored in an airtight container, your applesauce should stay fresh for about 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator. Always check for any signs of spoilage before consuming.

  • 15 pounds of your favorite apples such as a mix of sweet and tart varieties, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 3 liters of water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and chop the apples into chunks. You can use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor profile.
  • Load the Instant Pot: Place the chopped apples into the Instant Pot. Add 3 liters of water to ensure there's enough liquid for the apples to cook and become tender.
  • Add Cinnamon: Toss in the cinnamon sticks to infuse a warm and aromatic flavor into the apples. Cinnamon adds depth without the need for sugar.
  • Seal the Instant Pot: Secure the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to the sealing position.
  • Pressure Cook: Cook the apples on high pressure for 8 minutes. The Instant Pot will take a few minutes to come to pressure before the cooking time begins.
  • Natural Release: Allow the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully switch the valve to the venting position to release any remaining pressure.
  • Blend the Apples: Use an immersion blender to blend the apples directly in the Instant Pot until you reach your desired consistency. Alternatively, transfer the apples to a blender in batches.
  • Adjust Consistency (Optional): If the applesauce is too thick, you can add a bit of water and blend again until you achieve the desired texture.
  • Serve or Store: Taste the applesauce and adjust the flavor if necessary. Serve it warm or chilled. If you have leftovers, store them in airtight containers in the refrigerator.
  • Enjoy this simple and naturally sweet Instant Pot No-Sugar-Added Apple Sauce on its own, as a topping for yogurt, or as a versatile ingredient in various recipes.
